Where on Earth Have You Been?

Hi fellow crafty peeps!

         So, are you wondering where on Earth I have been? Life took a little bit of an unexpected turn around Thanksgiving 2014! We found out that we were going to be moving to S. Korea for a year in May 2015! What?! Yes, South Korea. That basically put my life in a tail spin and I didn't stop moving until now! Whew!

          I went through every belonging we had and decided it's fate. Would it go to Korea, Storage, Trash or Yard Sale. It was a daunting task but it had to be done. Then packing and prepping for our loooooong flight to Korea, with 3 kiddos I might add. I researched and prepped bags for the plane ride, hoping to keep the girls happy and fed. The flight really wasn't that bad and we started our Korean Adventure.

           Korea had its positives and negatives, but overall it was an amazing adventure! I took on the task of homeschooling my kids while we lived there, mostly because I had to, and we tried to see as much as we could. We didn't see everything we had wanted to, but overall we saw some pretty fun things. Homeschooling didn't end up being so bad and it freed up our time to do and see more things.

           We have since returned to the states and it has been quite the ride! Another long flight, reuniting with family and friends, setting up house again and shopping to replace some of the things that were sold in the first place. We are all happy to be back home, but do miss Korea. We really did have a great time there, and we made some fantastic friends.

           Now we are settling back into our new normal and prepping for this new chapter of our lives. Part of this chapter is that I am homeschooling again! I think I might be half crazy, but my kiddos asked to be homeschooled again this year, so we are going to see how it goes. I'm not going to lie, I LOVE prepping for the school year! All the curriculum and books streaming into our home is like Christmas for me! Maybe I'm a nerd like that.

            What about Scrapbooking and crafting? Well, to my surprise I did get started on a project life style scrapbook of our adventures in Korea. I only have a few months done, but I do plan to continue to work on that album or albums so we have our year there documented. I have to say that I very much enjoyed the project life/pocket style scrapbooking. I found that it was easier to squeeze into my busy day and fun to put together. I hope to share some of it in a YouTube video at some point.

            What's next for me? Aside from what I've already shared, I'm not entirely sure. I would love to get back into doing YouTube videos. I really enjoyed it and all of you. I would also like to try my hand at blogging some. What do you think? I hope your lives have been as blessed as mine has been this last year or so.

     At least now you know that I did not fall off the face of the planet, just traveled halfway around the world!

So Berry Cute!

I was very inspired by the 10.27 sketch over at Sketchy Thursdays this week and this evening I had a chance to create a layout for that sketch.

I wanted to scrapbook a photo of my girls in their Halloween costumes, so here is what I came up with....

Not your typical Halloween Layout but I think it is just adorable! 

I did a lot of doodling and used papers and embellishments from several manufacturers. I fussy cut the little strawberries from a digital sheet called The Garden Collage from The House Across The Bay.

I overlapped and popped elements up for dimension and interest. I had a blast with this layout and I hope you enjoyed it as well. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Be Yourself - Papercraft Star challenge #65

It's time for another fabulous challenge at Papercraft Star! This week Kim has prepared a beautiful color combination for you to play with. 

The challenge is to use combinations of 2, 3, or 4 colors only! (not including neutrals)

I love this color combination, it is so pretty! I cheated a little by using yellow as an accent color that I pulled from one of the pattern papers I used. Yellow counts as a neutral right? Okay, well I tried! :)

I really enjoy making layouts and decided to create one for this challenge. I used the sky blue, red and purple from the color combination, along with kraft, black and white (neutrals), and then I added yellow. I used the Butterfly collage sheet from The House Across The Bay to create my own embellishments for my page.

My daughter dressed herself this particular day and she is my sunshine. I see her as such a free spirit so I titled this layout "Be Yourself.... wherever you go, with all your heart." Butterflies remind me of the same, so I thought they would make the perfect embellishment fluttering around the page.

I used a 1 3/4" circle punch to create the background pattern on my page and added some machine stitching. This is a great layout to use with your scraps!! I used my craft knife to scrape a squiggly frame around the photos.

I used scraps and leftover pieces to create this little accent at the top corner of the page, adding the machine stitching once again to tie everything together. I love the way this page turned out and I hope my daughter will appreciate it when she is older.

Dreams Really Do Com True!!

I don't have the opportunity to take part in as many challenges as I would like, but I had some time this morning so I decided to try the sketch this at Sketchy Thursdays.

I have a ton (and I mean a ton) of photos from our Disney World trip last year and I haven't scrapped any of them! I know, I can't believe it myself. I thought the Sketchy Thursdays sketch was a fun way to scrap a couple of pictures from that trip.

Here is what I came up with....

I chose to use the Sweet Summertime collection by Echo Park for it's bright color pallet and patterns. 

I did some machine stitching on the paper strips and some doodling around the page. I really enjoyed making this layout and I hope you enjoy it as well.

Friendship - Scrapping Everyday Miracles

Hi! Today is Challenge 6 over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles. The topic for the challenge this week is Friendship that goes the distance.


It is in our friendships that we often find so many miracles and blessings.  We all have people in our lives who come and go, but there are those who stay close no matter what happens.  Create a page focusing on the blessing of a friendship that has gone the distance.  It can be a friend you've known since high school, or someone you've worked with, a neighbor you’ve known for years, or a friend you've met online!  Someone who has been there for you through thick and thin.  Share what makes the friendship so special that you're thankful to God for bringing them into your life.

Scrap Twist:  use a layered title and add something thick and something thin on the layout.

I am lucky enough to have a couple of wonderful best friends. I am very blessed to have both in my life. I decided to focus on the friend I have known for the longest. We have been friends for 20 years, so I wanted to create a layout dedicated to our friendship.

As SEM's August Guest Designer I was able to use some sponsor product from Tattered Inspirations! I loved playing with the beautiful kit I was sent from them. The crochet lace & doily, stick pin, buttons and book page are all from the kit I received. I even used the ribbon that the kit was tied with! I made the satin lollipop flower for this layout.

I cut the title out on my neglected Cricut using the Paisley cartridge and I did some hidden journaling on a vintage index card I received in a ephemera kit from Yolanda!

I had a fun time creating this layout and it was nice to honor such a wonderful friendship!

Laugh Out Loud - Scrapping Everyday Miracles

Hi there, today I am excited to be sharing a project as the August Guest Designer at Scrapping Everyday Miracles! Today Challenge 5 - I couldn't help but laugh opens at SEM!

This challenge is about scrapping those things in life that just make you laugh!

"God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me." (Genesis 21:6)

As a stay at home mom, I am constantly laughing at my two little ones. Kids really do say the funniest things! For this challenge I decided to document one of the oh so funny family photos, you know the ones!

The scrap twist this week is to use a funny photo and some sort of recycled material on your project or in the creation of your project.

Here is what I came up with...

I used a funny family photo of course!

For my recycled element I used a Capri Sun box as my speech bubble title.

The Eyelet Outlet was the sponsor for this challenge! I used some of these cute tiny white brads to make fun photo corners on my layout.

Sweet Summertime and Sunshine - Unscripted Sketches

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your summer despite the crazy temperature!

Today is Sketch it Saturday at Unscripted Sketches! Unfortunately this is my last project as a member of the US design team. I am sad to go but I need to cut some of my commitments. I want to spend some more time with my kiddos before I have to send the oldest off to school. They grow up so fast and I want to be sure I capture as much as I can! Anyway, back to the Sketch!

When I saw this sketch, I immediately saw a layout! I headed to the computer, picked my photo, gathered my paper and went to work! Here is what I came up with....

I used the Sweet Summertime collection pack by Echo Park for this layout.

I did some doodling around the edges of my pattern paper for a bit of fun and whimsy.

I used the name of the collection, located at the bottom of the patterned paper, as an embellishment and part of my title. I punched a bird with paper from the collection to add another fun element.

The title was actually by accident. I wanted to title the page You are my Sunshine, but I just didn't have the stickers, etc. to make that happen. I had so much fun making this layout. I hope you are inspired to get some craftin' done today!

Trim The Tree - Unscripted Sketches

It's time for Sketch it Saturdays at Unscripted Sketches!

For this sketch I created another 12X12 Christmas Layout.

For added interest, I hand stitched a pattern using pink thread onto the ornament die cut.

I used glossy accents and Bakers twine to create part of my title.

I enjoyed putting this layout together! It is a pretty quick & simple layout minus the time it took to hand stitch the ornament, that would be a good thing to do while watching TV with the family!

Dear Santa - Unscripted Sketches

It is time for another Sketch it Saturdays sketch from Unscripted Sketches! I hope you are enjoying Christmas in July!

This week's sketch...

Use wrapping paper somewhere on your project.

I chose to create a scrapbook layout for this challenge, with a Christmas theme of course! I used Tissue Paper, you know the kind you put in gift bags, on my project.

I attached the tissue paper to a piece of light weight chipboard using Mod Podge, I crinkled it up first. I inked around the edges of the page to add interest.

After that, it was just a matter of adding my photos and some fun embellishments!

I love the way the tissue paper background turned out and I hope to use it again on another project!

Santa's Cuties - Unscripted Sketches

Hi! It is time for Sketch it Saturdays over at Unscripted Sketches.

Here is this week's sketch...

Since we are celebrating Christmas in July at Unscripted Sketches this month, I thought I would create a Christmas layout! It's so Hot here thinking of Christmas doesn't seem so bad... maybe snow? Ahhhh...

I flip flopped the sketch a bit to get the look I wanted. I dry brushed some white gesso onto my base to add some interest and to frame my main images. Other than that, it is a pretty simple layout.

Scrapping Everyday Miracles

Hi! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Fourth of July!

We had a great time playing at the park, shooting off fireworks with our kiddos and watching the city fireworks from our driveway!

I just wanted to share some good, fun news with you! Scrapping Everyday Miracles picked my layout as top 3 for the June challenges, which is giving me the wonderful opportunity to be their August 2011 Guest Designer!!!

Scrapping Everyday Miracles - Challenge 2

Hi all,

     So last night I worked on another layout.... just for fun! :) I decided to participate in challenge 2 over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles. The challenge was to incorporate a banner of some sort and to use the follow quote.

How blessings brighten as they take their flight. ~Young

I decided to create a 12X12 layout for this challenge. I wanted to document pictures my husband and I had taken of one of the barn swallow families we have living on our front porch. We were blessed enough to see one of the baby birds leave the nest and learn to fly!

I used this sketch from Sketchy Thursdays.

Sketchy Thursdays / Everyday Miracles - God Gave Me You

Hi all!! I had some time this morning to scrap a layout just for fun! WooHoo!! I decided to play along with a couple of challenge blogs!

I followed the 6.23 Sketch over at Sketchy Thursdays - It is such a great sketch and I had fun playing along.

and with Challenge #1 at Scrapping Everyday Miracles. Their challenge was to scrap an everyday miracle using paint/mist and typed journaling.

I love the song God Gave Me You by Dave Barns and it makes me think about how blessed I am to have my husband in my life. It is truly an Everyday Miracle that God has planned every second, every person and every event that happens in our life. I am so blessed.

I pretty much followed the sketch to the T but I did add a place for journaling and some extra stitching. I dry brushed/painted behind the photos to "mat" them. I typed the lyrics to God Gave Me You out on my "new" typewriter (that I bought for $2.99 at Goodwill). I cut them into strips and inked the edges.

I had a lot of fun playing along and I hope you are inspired to join in.
